Summer Reading Program 2021

 

Families are invited! 

July 9 rescheduled due to weather July 16: Bird Viewing Field Trip & Story. Leave Heath Center at 9:30 a.m. (ask Lyra for more info) 

August 6: Hike in South Heath. Leave Heath Center at 10:00 a.m. (ask Lyra for more info) 

Story Walk in the North Woods at 18 Jacobs Rd. (former Heath School.) Open July through August, dawn ‘til dusk.

Poetry Walk in Heath Center Park. Open July through August, dawn ‘til dusk. 


 

Heath School Library window open by appointment this summer. 

Reading Logs are available to pick up at the library!

Summer Reading Program

Join us virtually via Zoom on:
  • Friday, July 10 at 10:30: Fairy Tale Story Hour with Lyra (Geared toward the younger crowd) 
  • Monday, July 13 at 10:00: Q&A with Rachel Purington (learn about her interesting jobs as a service dog trainer & veterinary assistant) & reading of Jessica & Rescue. (For all ages - teens included!)
  • Friday, July 24 at 10:30: Harry Potter Fun with Vega & Jupiter (For all ages!) 
  • Friday, July 31 at 10:30: Writing Workshop and Magical Woodland Story with Kerrie McNay (Geared toward elementary school ages) 
 Free! All welcome to sign up. Please provide your email address so that we can send you Zoom invitations for each program.

The accompanying crafts for the July 10th & 24th programs can be either picked up at the library window or dropped off to you ahead.

Children's Summer Reading Program Raffle & Prizes

The raffle prize winners will be drawn on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at noon. Please bring in your reading logs to receive your 5 raffle tickets.

Summer has ended and we are asking all the children who signed up for the Summer Reading Program to return their Reading Logs by September 7 to receive their prize (a $10 gift certificate to Boswells Books book store) and 5 raffle tickets.

The raffle prize winners will be drawn on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at noon.

Astronomy Night - Friday, July 26

Astronomy Night at the former Heath School Building's grounds.  (The astronomer that is coming with his telescope said the weather for Saturday night is predicted to be cloudy, so that evening of viewing has been cancelled.)

This location is great for night sky observation.

This evening event is free and open to the public!

Hike in Heath

 
Some outdoor fun books in our children's collection.

Friday, July 19th, 10:30 AM: Hike in Heath with Art Schwenger. Meet in Heath Center.

We will be joined by naturalist Henry Austin who will lead some fun kids' activities during the hike.

Please bring water, snack/lunch, and bug repellent.

 **All children must be accompanied by an adult**.

Friday, July 26th, 10:30 a.m.: Constellation Story Hour (Library) & at 8:00 p.m. Astronomy Night at the Former Heath School Building's grounds (with a 2nd night on Sat., July 27th in case of inclement weather.)

Summer Reading and Astronomy Night


Children and their families are invited to Heath Free Public Library's Summer Reading Events

Join us for crafts, stories, a Heath Hike, and Community Astronomy Nights. Please sign up at the Library: 1 E. Main St., Heath, MA.

Friday, July 5th, at 10:30 a.m.: Moon & Planets stories & crafts (at the library.)

Friday, July 12th, 10:30: Make Bottle Rockets! Meet at library-we will use center park to launch rockets.

Friday, July 19th, 10:30: Hike in Heath with Art Schwenger. Meet in Heath Center, **All children must be accompanied by an adult**.

The community is invited to Astronomy Nights in Heath. Join local astronomers for two nights of stargazing with telescopes at the Heath School Building grounds on Jacobs Road.

 Friday, July 26th & Saturday, July 27th, 2019 8:00 p.m. both nights. Free, donations accepted for the Heath School Building. There are two nights scheduled in case of rain or completely cloud covered skies on one of the nights.

Beatles Sing-Along

Please join us for a Beatles sing-along with Ed Fuller (Lyra's husband) at the Sue Crawford Music Garden at Heath Elementary School, in the School Library if rainy. We'll have stories and children's songs, including kid-friendly Beatles favorites!

Summer Reading Fun

Join us for rock-related crafts, stories, a geology hike, and some good old fashioned rock & roll music! Sign up at the library! All ages welcome.

Friday, July 6th, 10:30: Children's music with local musician Karen Brooks. We'll make musical instruments, read a story, sing, and dance! At the Heath Free Public Library, outside if weather is clement.

Friday, July 13th, 11:00: Hike to Tannery Falls in Savoy with local naturalist Bob Richardson. Meet at the Heath Library at 10:30 to caravan. Children absolutely must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Families and all ages welcome! Find out why this beautiful area is so special geologically.

Friday, July 20, 10:30: Musical Story Hour at the Heath Library. We'll make musical instruments, read stories, sing, and have a snack.

Friday, July 27, 10:30: Beatles sing-along with Ed Fuller (Lyra's husband) at the Music Garden at Heath Elementary School (in the School Library if rainy.) We'll have stories and children's songs, including kid-friendly Beatles favorites!

Parents: please sign your children up for the Summer Reading Program! Keep track of the books your child reads or reads with a family member this summer with your Reading Log (ask Don or Lyra for one!) Summer Reading Program Raffle


Summer is ending soon and so is the 2015 Summer Reading Program. It's time for children to turn in their summer reading logs and receive 5 raffle tickets for the 10 prizes that will be drawn on Saturday, September 5 at noon.

Children who turn in their reading log will also receive a $10 gift certificate to a nearby bookstore, a coupon for a Friendly's Kids Meal (with an adult meal purchase), and two Superhero finger puppets.

Fizz! Boom! Read! Summer Reading and Crafts Program


It's time to gear up for a summer of reading! Fizz! Boom! Read! is this year's Summer Reading theme. Children ages 5-12 are invited to sign up for the Summer Reading and Crafts Program at the library. Stop by and pick up a reading log to keep track of the books you and your family read together. Later in August, turn in your log to receive a gift certificate to World Eye Bookstore and other prizes!

Also, we will be meeting at the Heath Fairgrounds in the blue exhibit hall on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 to do some fun science experiments! Join us July 16, 23, 30, and August 6 & 13. Come Fizz, Boom, & Read with us!

Raffle Drawing and Summer Reading Logs

The Summer Reading Raffle prize winners will be drawn on Saturday, September 7 at noon. Children who signed up for the Summer Reading program get 5 free raffle tickets.

We also have 1 adult raffle prize: a Summer Reading T-shirt (size Adult Large.) All adults may have 1 free ticket to enter the raffle.

Time to "Dig Into Reading"


The Heath Free Public Library invites children ages 5-12 to sign up for the free Summer Reading & Crafts Program. 

Please come by the library and pick up a reading log to keep track of the books read during the summer. Later, turn them in to receive prizes and enter a free raffle.

Sign up for some fun crafts sessions with Lyra Johnson-Fuller that include some crafts related to the Dig Into Reading theme, updating the giant Mother Nature Marionette for her second appearance at the Heath Fair, and decorating your bicycles for the Heath Fair Parade. The crafts will take place in the blue building on the Fairgrounds four Wednesday evenings: July 17, 24, 31, and August 7 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
